FAQs
How often should I clean the Resene Construction Systems Exterior Cladding?
You will need to clean down your Resene Construction Systems Plaster Finish every 12 – 18 months. Most airborne dirt particles accumulate on exterior surfaces during the summer months. So before the winter rain washes the dirt down over the walls, give these areas
a clean, this will dramatically reduce the chances of your Resene Construction Systems Plaster Finish being stained. Also when cleaning, check your spouting to make sure there are no leaves that could block drains, or overflows when it rains.
How do I clean the Resene Construction Systems Exterior Cladding?
This work should be completed using a low pressure water blaster (300 psi or less). Under NO circumstances should a high pressure water blaster be used. For best results use “Resene Roof wash and paint cleaner”. Apply the diluted solution with a soft broom, & wash off with copious amounts of fresh water. Most detergents have a detrimental effect on fish life so avoid letting the washings run off into the stormwater system. DO NOT use harsh solvent based cleaners.
If the Resene Construction Systems Surface gets damaged how is it repaired?
Contact your Registered Plasterer they will provide the necessary expertise to remedy the damage. If you are unable to contact a registered Resene Construction Systems Plasterer call Resene Construction Systems – Free Phone 0800 50 70 40 – we will arrange for an inspection & provide an assessment for the repair the Resene Construction Systems cladding.
Do I need to re-paint?
Re-painting the exterior should be undertaken by a professional painter every 7 – 10 years to ensure the integrity of the entire system is kept good. If you select a colour which has an LRV less than 25% you can expect to repaint every 7 years.
Can I raise the landscaping up against the plaster?
No. Exterior claddings fixed over timber frame require a minimum ground clearance to ensure no moisture gets to the bottom timber plate of the wall due to capillary action.

Damaged Cladding
Your first port of call should be to an Applicator/Plasterer who can give you a price to rectify the work.
Impact or accidental damage to the Resene Construction Systems exterior cladding can be repaired. The process involves cleaning and removing any component of damaged product and reinstating it with the same overcoating system that is applied according to current specifications. The following outlines the process to repair various degrees of accidental impact damage;
Type 1
Scuffing/grazing of the surface coating that has not broken through the fibre glass mesh reinforcement.
• Remove loose material and clean the damaged surface by brushing to remove any latent dirt or loose plaster material.
• Mineral texture – Apply selected mineral texture coating to a pre-defined finishing point to ensure any visual change in appearance is minimised. Seal the textured area, and apply the selected finishing coats of paint.
• Acrylic texture – Apply selected mineral texture coating to a pre-defined finishing point to ensure any visual change in appearance is minimised. Seal the textured area, and apply the selected finishing coats of paint.
• Installation of vertical control joints may be required to reduce the area to be overcoated and to minimise any visual defect from the new textured area. If you decide to proceed with the noted process we will identify these areas with you prior to commencement of any works.
Type 2
Impact of the surface coating that has broken through the fibre glass mesh reinforcement and damaged the plaster coating under the fibreglass mesh.
• Remove loose material and clean the damaged surface by brushing to remove any latent dirt or loose plaster material. This may require the cutting away of fibreglass mesh to remove loose material below the mesh.
• Apply a coat of Rockcote MultiStop Bedding compound directly onto the prepared area and extending the plaster 200mm either side of the impact damage. Apply a layer of fibreglass mesh into the wet bedding plaster.
If you decide to proceed with the noted process we will identify these areas with you prior to the commencement of any works.
Type 3
Impact of the surface coating that has broken through the entire plaster coating, and damaged the substrate. An independent report is required to assess the structural integrity of the sub-frame. The coating/cladding repairs are dependant on the outcome of this report. The cladding may have to be replaced to the surrounding area. A Resene Construction Systems technical manager must review this type of work prior to cladding being repaired.
